Composers’ interest in the mythical and supernatural will be on full display when the Wind Ensemble presents their November 17 program. Roshanne Etezady’s Anahita is a tribute to the Zoroastrian goddess of the night who drove her chariot westward, escaping the rising sun. Also included are two cornerstone works for band, Hammersmith by Gustav Holst, and Michael Colgrass’ epic 1985 composition Winds of Nagual, the tale of Carlos Castaneda’s 14-year apprenticeship with Yaqui Indian sorcerer Don Juan Matis. Rounding out the program is a preview performance of alumnus Clay Mettens’ (BM ’13) new chamber work to be performed in New York City in late November.
Program:
Etezady, The Flight of Night, from Anahita
Mettens, Chamber Work (Premiere)
Holst, Hammersmith
Colgrass, Winds of Nagual
