Piazzolla 100: El Nuevo Tango

About This Show

Leonardo Suarez-Paz, a many-time Latin Grammy Award nominee and multifaceted “virtuoso extraordinaire” (Wynton Marsalis), shares his vision of tango by breathing new life into the stories he experienced while growing up alongside his mentors who revolutionized 21st-century music—the Argentine-born and New York-raised composer Astor Piazzolla and his lyricist, Horacio Ferrer.

Following in the footsteps of his mentors, Suarez-Paz demonstrates tango as an evolving, daring, artistically complex and emotionally moving art form with a groundbreaking new style of music and dance, “superb,” “harmonically sophisticated arrangements” (Gramophone, UK) and multimedia. The stories transcend cultural boundaries and beckon to embark on an immersive, emotional journey through the struggles and triumphs of life and art.  Suarez-Paz delivers another “magnificent performance” (All About Jazz) along with a 16-member cast featuring Nuevo Tango Ensemble with Grammy-winning soloists,  Nuevo Tango Ballet, stunning visual art backdrops of works by Dedé Wolff and Lulú Michelli de Ferrer, the respective wives of Piazzolla and Ferrer, and rare film footage of Piazzolla.
